We take you fly fishing on the Petrohue River, near Puerto Varas. You fish for rainbow trout, brown trout and Chinook salmon, among the rapids and with views of mountains and volcanoes. It is a full-day trip from Ensenada.

A day of fly fishing on the Petrohue River

We leave Ensenada in our transfer for the El Cable area of the Petrohue River. There we unload the cataraft, an inflatable fishing boat, and the gear.

15 km downriver by cataraft

We float 15 km downriver, stopping at the best spots in the cold blue water of the Petrohue, among its rapids and with views of the mountains and volcanoes. The trip ends at Río Frío, 8 km before the mouth of the river, and from there we drive back to the base.

Trout and Chinook salmon

The river holds rainbow trout and brown trout, as well as Chinook salmon. This is a fly fishing trip.

What is included and what to bring

The trip includes a guide, transport and a fishing boat. As our program says, the only requirement is a good mood and a real wish to fish.

Fishing season on the Petrohue River

The fishing season and its rules are set by Sernapesca, the national fisheries service, and change every year. On the Petrohue River the season ends on the first Sunday of May; in 2026 it was extended to 31 May, with mandatory catch and release. You need a recreational fishing license.

Price and booking

Guided fishing price: CLP 280,000 for a full day and CLP 150,000 for a half day. The price is per boat, for 2 people, and includes transport from our base in Ensenada. To book, message us on WhatsApp with your date and group size.
